Dept of Mo Ladies Auxiliary Patriotic Art Places Second at National

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest – 2nd Place:
“Lady Liberty,” Media: Colored Pencil and Markers
Lauren Tucker, 12th grade
Ste. Genevieve High School, Ste. Genevieve, Mo.
Sponsored by Ladies Auxiliary VFW 2210, Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

“I wanted to create something that had an old symbol of America with something modern added to it. The Statue of Liberty is somewhat a soldier of America; she is a beacon that guides in boats when they need to dock on stormy or pitch black nights. Soldiers are like that, too; they help or rescue civilians and bring them to safety from the destruction of war. I try to symbolize that both give something to help others; for the solider, her life on the line, and for the Statue of Liberty, her torch to guide sailors.”

Congratulations to Lauren on winning 2nd Place and a $5,000 scholarship!
