The official Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated at College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo near Branson, Mo on April 22, 2015. Thousands were in attendance as the Memorial was dedicated. Speakers were Jerry Davis, President of College of the Ozarks; Johnny Morris, Founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops; Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder; Lt Col Oliver North, USMC (Ret); Col. Donald Ballard, Medal of Honor Recipient;and Gen. Terrence R. Dake were part of the dedication ceremony.
Many states had a state-recognized memorial to honor Vietnam Veterans. In 2014, College of the Ozarks decided Missouri needed to have such a memorial. Senate Concurrent Resolution 43 passed unanimously by Missouri legislature on May 16, 2014 confirmed College of the Ozarks as the location for this meaningful memorial.
The Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial recognizes the 1,410 service men and women who gave their lives during the war and honors all who served.
Located near the College’s entrance, the project has been funded by donations make by the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge and the PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR.
The memorial was designed by College of the Ozarks alumnus Austin Meyer and was built by C of O staff and students.
