Possible Phone Scam Targeting Veterans

Last week a Veteran called me and said he has been contacted about 30 times over the last month by someone asking for donations.  He donated once, but began to suspect the organization was not legit because of callers’ behavior.  (Repeated call-backs and hang-ups, etc.)

I reported the Veteran’s concern to our police, and Sgt. Noisworthy investigated.

We’re told the callers identify themselves as being from “Young Vets” and ask for donations under $100.  Donate once, and they hound you repeatedly after that.  They call using a 660 area code, which is untraceable.  When Sgt. Noisworthy tried to call the number, they hung up on him.

We felt you should be aware.  Feel free to share this information with Veterans and service organizations.
