The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Department of Missouri, is proud to announce the selection of Seth D. Baskett of Sturgeon, MO as the 2013-2014 Scout of the Year Scholarship winner.

The Scout of the Year Scholarship Program is an annual program through which the Veterans of Foreign Wars recognizes three individuals who are: Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award recipients, Venture Gold or Silver Award recipients and/or Sea Scout Quartermasters who have risen above their peers in exemplifying the qualities of that rank. Applications for the scholarship are processed through a local VFW Post, which selects a local winner.  The Department of Missouri reviews local Post applications and selects one Scout’s application to forward for the national competition.  A $500.00 award is provided by the Department of Missouri to the State selectee.  The national organization of the Veterans of Foreign Wars provides for awards of:   $5,000 1st place scholarship; $3,000 2nd place scholarship; $1,000 3rd place scholarship.  Scouts are judged on the basis of their Scouting record, record of service within their community, participation in high school activities, including academic achievement, offices held, honors received, and significant participation in other activities.
